Text of the letter we wrote them to use as your guide:
Dear Committee members and chairperson,
As a long time fan of both NCAA and professional football and many other sports, I found it both shocking and abhorrent that you would appoint someone like Condoleeza Rice to your committee. First off, she isn’t sufficiently knowledgeable about the game of football and probably less so than I am but more importantly and despite her otherwise impressive resume, she is a war criminal. And I don’t claim that lightly nor without lots of evidence.
Serving as National Security Advisor, she was one of the primary Bush Administration officials that deliberately misled this country into a war with Iraq based on extremely cherry-picked and politicized intelligence, contradictory intelligence sold with absolute certainty, flagrant dishonesty about the threat Saddam posed to our country using images of mushroom clouds to imply Saddam had nuclear weapons' capabilities and/or was close to that and would use those weapons to target the U.S. She falsely equated Iraq with al Qaeda and 9/11 on numerous occasions so that many Americans would come to believe Saddam's regime was responsible for that atrocity. It was her involvement in a calculated and orchestrated drumbeat of false information and public pronouncements that ultimately misled the American people, many members of Congress, and this nation's allies into an unnecessary, costly, and deadly war that killed as many as 1,000,000 innocent Iraqis by more recent estimates, almost 4,500 U.S. servicemen and women, and caused an additional 2.5 million Iraqis to become displaced from their homes at a cost to American taxpayers of at least $3 trillion dollars and still counting. The number of US military wounded in this utter fiasco, will cost us at least a trillion dollars over many years. The Iraq war greatly contributed to the destabilization of most of the Middle East and is the primary cause of much of the extremism and violence we read about today that threaten our country now. This war almost completely devastated the viable country of Iraq and its people.
Of all the people who are very knowledgeable about college football and who didn’t severely damage our country nor destroy Iraq by their actions, you chose her??? Have you no shame? Or was this appointment along with the AF LT. General, who also has no real sports-related experience nor background just another one of many thinly disguised attempts to align college football even more closely with the US military and its propaganda mechanisms?
Even if you believed or want to believe all the reasons Condi Rice makes for herself to try and rehabilitate her damaged reputation on Iraq, she still lacked the capacity to make the right decisions about Iraq unlike many others during this same time period who tried and mostly failed to warn our government that going to war in Iraq was a very poor decision not based on credible intelligence nor credible assessments of Iraq’s WMDs. You cannot excuse her poor judgment.
It is my opinion shared by many others in this country that those who deliberately lied us into a totally unnecessary and costly war in Iraq need to be held accountable for their actions. They shouldn’t be allowed to have their reputations rehabilitated by Committees such as yours. Impunity for multiple war crimes should not be part of your agenda.
I sincerely hope that you will choose to do the correct and honorable thing and remove Condoleeza Rice forthwith from your Committee. Her service to this country was a disgrace of unlimited and very damaging proportions.
Sincerely,
